The Benefits of Botox Cosmetic Injections

header v2

One of the most common non-invasive aesthetic treatments is…..drumroll please….BOTOX!!

Cosmetic procedures in general have grown in popularity since covid as more and more people want to improve their appearance after long lockdowns, being on ZOOM, and spending more time following the beauty trends on social media.

Many younger patients are looking to Botox as a preventative treatment that wards off wrinkles and stops facial aging before it even begins. A shift in the age group since lock down now shows more 20-30 yr olds looking to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles earlier on, resulting in smoother skin for many more years. Botox treatment continues to grow in popularity each year.

So what’s all the hype about you ask? The answer is YOUTH!! We are forever chasing that young, plump, filtered look and now we can have it with the use of cosmetic injectables such as Botox, dermal fillers, laser treatments, medical grade skincare and products. Social media has pushed this industry into overdrive and the demand is REAL!!

So lets take a deeper dive into wrinkle relaxers… first off there are a few different brands on the market. This can be confusing for some however your practitioner should explain this in detail prior to treatment and I’m here to help simplify. In a nutshell there are a few different brands on the market, each practitioner will have their preferred brand based on their own clinical outcomes.

At PureGlo we prefer Botox, Dysport & Nuceiva- all of these are Neuromodulators (fancy name for wrinkle relaxers) which are all medications using botulinum neurotoxin- simply put they all have the same intended mechanism of action- product choice just comes down to practitioner preference based on your aesthetic needs. These medications stop the transmission of the nerve impulse to the muscle which causes it to contract. Over time repeated muscle contraction results in lines or wrinkles at rest. By using Botox early on (20-30’s) we can help to prevent these lines and wrinkles from forming into deep creases. Starting treatment later on in life (40 +) we can help to correct some of the static lines that have formed and prevent them from getting deeper. Keep in mind Botox is not a magic eraser- starting treatment later in life when deep lines at rest have already formed it will take some time to see an improvement however it will prevent the lines from getting any deeper. This is where laser treatment  such as Moxi or Halo can be used for a combination treatment to help. There is no right or wrong time to start Botox treatment.

Botox treatment is performed in under 15 minutes. There is zero downtime and little to no pain experienced. It takes about 3-5 days for the medication to start working and a full 2 weeks for complete results. Results typically last 3-4 months. The most common areas for Botox treatment are crows feet (around the eyes), forehead and between the eyes. Botox can be used both cosmetically and therapeutically for conditions such as migraines, TMJ, excessive sweating and more. Botox is priced by the unit- each area will require a different dosage based on your presenting anatomy. Your practitioner will preform a full-face assessment and make recommendations based on your aesthetic goals/needs.

Botox treatment does not come without risk. It is crucial you do your research to find a trusted provider. Botox treatment does not have to leave you looking ‘done’ or frozen. When properly done these types of treatments should be soft and undetectable leaving you looking refreshed. Look at google reviews, credentials, go for a consultation and most importantly go with your gut!!

Good luck on your new journey to a more youthful, refreshed.
